Many people assume that plastic surgeons just do cosmetic procedures like breast augmentation and liposuction.
The reality is that Dr. Reath, along with other members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, performs a large amount of surgeries that are reconstructive in nature. A reconstructive procedure corrects a problem that is the result of injury, illness or a birth defect.
Dr. Reath is particularly passionate about treating children for repair of cleft lip and palate and other deformities. In addition, he helps children with injuries that are the results of accidents and very commonly dog-bites.

He is a nationally recognized expert on lower limb reconstruction (usually the result of trauma) and has just been appointed to an elite group of trauma surgeons who help determine public policy on injury prevention, The Committee on Trauma. He was the only plastic surgeon in the US to be invited to lecture at the Pan American Trauma Congress in Venezuela last November 1999.
Because of his extensive work on the breast, he is on the forefront of using new techniques for reconstruction with women who have had breast cancer. He also reconstructs other areas of the body, which have been affected by cancer.
