We have been using Juvederm with great success since it originally came on the market. This year, the FDA confirmed our experience with the product....it lasts longer than other hyaluronic acid fillers. And in many cases, based on new clinical data, it is lasting up to a year with a single treatment. Even better, Juvederm, in conjunction with Botox®, makes both products last longer.

Juvederm- You are going to hear a lot about Juvederm, made by Allergan, the company that brought us BOTOX® . It has been all over the media. Virginia Madsen, and her mom, are speaking out about their great results with it, along with Botox.
It is available in two different formulations; one to treat moderate wrinkles in the mid-dermis and the other to add volume to larger areas such as the cheeks. It is also used to contour the face. They are called Juvederm and Juvederm Ultra Plus.
It is the next generation of hyaluronic acid products. The hyaluronic acid in Juvederm is manufactured in a smooth gel versus a gel particle suspension in Restylane. This different formulation is providing a smoother, longer lasting correction than current hyaluronic acid products on the market.

Restylane- Another popular dermal filler we use in our office is Restylane. It can be used to treat mild to moderate lines and wrinkles and is designed to be injected in the mid-dermis. It won Allure magazine's coveted Best of Beauty Breakthrough Award.

More about Hyaluronic Acid Based Fillers-
Hyaluronic acid is a natural complex sugar found in all living animals that retains water and adds volume to the skin’s surface. It binds with collagen to provide structure, elasticity and volume to the skin and contribute to its overall appearance. As the skin ages, the cells lose the ability to produce hyaluronic acid. As a result, the skin begins to lose volume, often resulting in thinning lips, facial wrinkles and folds. Dermal fillers comprised of cross-linked hyaluronic acid are used to temporarily replace the lost hyaluronic acid and to restore skin volume with a smooth natural appearance.
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are the fastest growing non-invasive facial procedures in the US with an increase of 33% from 2005 to 2006.

Injectable HA Fillers: Where we are now
Right now, there are several new hyaluronic acid injectable fillers in various stages of FDA approval. In San Francisco, our office staff attended a scientific panel taught by several US physicians participating in FDA clinical trials for the new fillers undergoing approval, as well as a Canadian physician currently using these fillers in his practice. The highlight of the panel was the injection workshop featuring the latest injection techniques and products demonstrated live on ten lucky patients. Here is the latest information we have about the new hyaluronic acid fillers available.
Perlane- Also from the makers of Restylane, Perlane is specifically for correction of deeper wrinkles and folds. It is formulated and injected differently than Restylane, which makes it a better choice to add volume in larger areas such as the cheeks or for use in facial contouring. Perlane was first used in Europe and Canada and just recently approved by the FDA. (This is a similar product to Juvederm Plus.) $650 per syringe
Introducing Jill Maze, RN
Aesthetic Nurse Specialist Jill Maze is a welcome addition to our practice. Her patients attest to both her caring bedside manner and her skilled professionalism. A member of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Nurses, Jill’s medical training, injectable expertise and gentle touch is a winning combination.
Since the FDA’s approval of Juvederm and other fillers, Jill has been focused on advanced training with the southeast’s most renowned experts in Cosmetic Injectables in both Atlanta and Boca Raton, Florida. She received specialized instruction on techniques for using Botox for areas other than the upper face. In addition, she is trained and experienced with the recently FDA-approved semi-permanent filler Radiesse.
This area requires a unique blend of artistry and science as well as the need to stay current, so Jill will continue to travel the U.S. and Canada to observe the leaders in her field. When she is not traveling and taking care of patients Jill likes to spend time with her husband and two teen-aged daughters camping in the great outdoors. Welcome Jill!
