Two Must-Have Ingredients in Your Skin Care Routine

Christy Ledford Licensed Aesthetician Knoxville

One of the most fun parts about working at our office is seeing Christy Ledford’s patients come to the front desk, absolutely glowing after she works her magic in the skin care room. With nine years working as a Licensed Aesthetician, Christy has a wealth of advice on the do’s and don’ts of great skin.

So with the wide range of skin products available, we asked her to keep it simple. Could she narrow it down to just two ingredients that make the biggest difference in achieving great skin?

She didn’t even have to think about it:

For optimum anti-aging results, I feel very passionate about all of my patients being on both a Vitamin A (retinol) and a Vitamin C serum. Period. These two work synergistically to create a youthful, glowing complexion, protect the skin from the free radical damage of our daily environments, and help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, which can help reverse skin damage from overexposure to the sun, and also improves skin’s texture and quality if used on a regular basis. Vitamin A encourages dead and dying skin cells to slough away, speeding up cell turnover to smooth wrinkles, fade sun spots, and build collagen.

There has to be a balance when using these two because too much of a good thing can actually leave the skin in a chronic state of inflammation and contribute to premature aging. More is not better. Just sayin’.

Back when these powerful vitamins were first discovered for topical use, the standard form of vitamin A was only prescription retinoids (Retin –A, Renova, and Tazorac) and the good old standby of vitamin C was L-ascorbic acid. Prescription retinoids don’t have a shut-off valve and can leave the face looking stripped and vascular because of excess exfoliation. Likewise L-ascorbic acid can become too acidic, causing irritation for some skin types. Excess exfoliation and irritation actually cause the skin to become stressed and look older, rather than younger. Not the goal we are trying to achieve.

This is why we are crazy about our Vitamin C+E ComplexBrightamin-C and Triple C serums. All of these contain revolutionary blends of stabilized C’s that have collagen boosting properties with no irritation. These are safe for all skin types and can be used daily right off the bat.

Back away from the Retin-A!

New medical-grade retinols provide all the positive anti-aging results of the old Rx-strength tubes without creating chronic inflammation and non-stop lizard skin.

Today’s advanced technology has revolutionized the delivery systems which can carry the A and the C deep into the skin’s layers without tearing up everything along the way. This mode of transportation lessens harsh side effects such as dryness, redness, and irritation.

We carry five different retinol formulations that are made up with the most advanced, multi-tasking ingredients on the market. These serums are customizable by skin types so it’s important to have options.

Both vitamins A and C are capable of normalizing most skin functions which makes them essential to correct most skin conditions. When people really talk about game-changing results from skin care, this tag team is always a part of the regimen, along with a good physical sunscreen, of course.
