The Wrong Time For Your Skin Care Treatment

Christy
Want to know one thing you can do to maximize your skin care results? Hint: It’s not just about picking the right procedure. As the old saying goes, “The right thing at the wrong time becomes the wrong thing.”

Licensed Aesthetician Christy Ledford explains why the timing of your treatment is so important, and what you need to know to get it right:

_______________________________________________________________________

Summer can be tricky for some skin care procedures because increased sun exposure will hinder results. Even with religious application of sunscreen, there are just some procedures you shouldn’t have if you’ll be spending any time outdoors.

Fall Skin Care

Wait until fall to treat veins and dark spots.

Cooler weather is the time for laser vein treatments and getting serious about reversing sun damage. Our new Excel V laser is ideal for veins or vascular lesions, as well as removing red and brown pigments. Now that the kids are back in school, it shouldn’t be too much longer. I can hardly wait!

The Skin Lightening RealPeel and Mini- RealPeels are aggressive and impressive. I reserve them for fall and winter since they take off significant layers and patients need to stay completely out of the sun.

Fall is also is a great time to pull out the CryoCorrect to zap those individual brown spots.

(The above suggestions are all okay as long as you are not going somewhere tropical in the winter. It can wait until you get back.)
Summer skin care

Year round skin care procedures

Fortunately, there is a lot we can do in the summer and every other day of the year that make a big difference in the health of the skin.

SkinPen-

I always tell patients that SkinPen is one of the most “sun friendly” treatments we have. It focuses on the deeper dermis instead of removing outer layers of the epidermis, which means you won’t have to hide from the sun. You can still get all the benefits of smoothing and tightening without all the down time of more invasive lasers and chemical peels.

Laser Hair Removal-

With the arrival of our new Excel HR laser, I have been doing a lot laser hair removal this summer. It’s lightning fast, much more comfortable than our old laser, and the best part – NO numbing cream is required!

HydraFacial MD-

Of course a Hydrafacial is the “go-to” treatment all year round and helps add moisture to the skin without adding excess oil. Patients who already have issues with getting more oily in the humidity love these treatments because they not only get a mild resurfacing, but they also end up producing less oil because their skin is balanced and properly hydrated. It can also keep breakouts at bay in the summer months due to adding more water to the skin and by keeping the outermost layer removed.

Dermaplaning-

Speaking of keeping the outermost layer of skin removed, a dermaplane treatment is also a great summertime treatment. It exfoliates the skin and removes any “peach fuzz” on your face.

Laser Genesis-

Like the SkinPen, Laser Genesis is another wonderful summer treatment because once again, it is focusing on the dermis with its ability to stimulate collagen and give a plumping effect.

Mild Chemical Peels-

We also have more mild peels like the Probiotic Youthboost or the Societe Transition Peel if patients want a gentle resurfacing without having to give up their fun outdoors. You can always combine some of these in the summer as long as it’s not too aggressive.

Summer Products-

I still recommend to keep up your retinols (Societe Refinishing Complex is milder and even able to be used during the day) and your pads (Nordic Skin Peel or Glowbiotics Instant Resurfacing pads) to keep the layers turning over and the sun damage at bay. Also don’t forget your antioxidant serum to keep the free radicals at a minimum. Oh yeah, and SPF of course!
