CoolSculpting Applicators

CoolSculpting Applicators

We are the only office in Knoxville to have two of every advanced applicator available, including the brand new CoolPetite, which was just FDA-approved for the upper arms. Pictured left to right: CoolAdvantage Plus, CoolAdvantage and CoolPetite. Not pictured here: CoolSmooth Pro and CoolMini.

Here’s The Skinny

It’s hard to really understand how CoolSculpting works without a good grasp of the CoolSculpting applicators. We thought it would be helpful to give an overview here so you’ll have a general idea of how the treatment works and why having the right applicator for the right area of the body is so critical to getting the most fat reduction.

With the CoolSculpting procedure, here’s what is important to recognize: Fat cells that are not actually in the applicator won’t be affected by the treatment. Having the largest variety of applicator sizes allows us the most flexibility to treat different body areas in both men and women.

As the CoolSculpting technology has advanced, the company has updated their applicators to shorten treatment times, maximize results and treat new areas of the body. When we first started CoolSculpting back in 2012, we were unable to treat chins, arms, outer thighs, inner thighs, knees and armpit puffs. Now we see great results in all these areas because of the arrival of new FDA-approved applicators.

These applicators ain’t cheap, that’s for sure. As such, most providers try to get by with what they have, instead of focusing on the newer, better and faster treatments. We are committed to being at the forefront by bringing in the newest applicators for our patients. You can be assured that you’ll have access to all of the latest and greatest CoolSculpting treatments available.

CoolSculpting Terminology

There are two terms that tend to confuse people when they start researching CoolSculpting treatments: suction and cycles. Let’s explain these first and then we’ll talk about each applicator individually.

Suction or No Suction
Most CoolSculpting applicators rely on suction to pull the area treated away from the body and hold it next to the cooling plates during the procedure. There is one applicator, the CoolSmooth Pro,  which is specifically designed for areas with denser areas of fat that are difficult to suction, like the outer thighs. The CoolSmooth Pro uses no suction and has a longer treatment time than the rest of the applicators.

What is meant by CoolSculpting “cycles”

Cycles are the way the cost of CoolSculpting is determined. CoolSculpting applicators use one cycle per area, so treating both sides of the body is two cycles.

CoolCurve plus advantage

CoolCurve+ Advantage

Treatment time: This newest version of the CoolCurve+ only takes 35 minutes per treatment. If you’re told it takes an hour, your provider still uses the old applicator.

Suction: Yes
Cool curve Plus The CoolCurve+ has a cup design which allows it to have the best placement on curved or narrow areas of the body. We typically use it on the hip rolls, love handles or muffin tops. It’s very versatile and sometimes fits on the bra line as well.

CoolCore Advantage

Treatment time: Like the CoolCurve+, the newest CoolCore applicator only takes 35 minutes.

Suction: Yes
Cycles: One per application.

The CoolCore best matches the contour of most abdomens. The amount of treatments depends on the size of your abdomen and the fat distribution. Most patients have both their upper and lower abdomen treated.

CoolFit Applicator

CoolFit Advantage

Treatment time: The newest CoolFit applicator only takes 35 minutes.

Suction: Yes
Cycles: One per application.

The CoolFit is designed specifically for treating vertical areas of fat on the body. This is the applicator that now makes it possible to treat the inner thighs/thigh gap. Dr. Reath actually prefers CoolSculpting to liposuction in this area because there can be some skin looseness and a gradual, less aggressive method of fat removal may work better than liposuction.

CoolPetite

New! CoolPetite for Arms

Treatment Time: 35 minutes

Suction: Yes
Cycles: One per application.

The CoolPetite is the newest applicator, so new that only a few offices have it. It is designed for the upper arms and other smaller pockets of fat on the body. It comes in two different shapes for versatility and contour.

CoolAdvantage Plus

CoolAdvantage Plus

Treatment Time: The newest version of the CoolAdvantage Plus only takes 45 minutes. With this large applicator, it’s most important that your provider has the advanced applicator. Not only is the treatment time reduced, but the results are significantly better with less chance of pain after the procedure.

Suction: Yes
cooladvantage plusCycles: One per application.

This is the largest applicator that we mentioned earlier. It is mostly used on the lower abdomen, but sometimes can be fitted on the upper abdomen as well. It comes in two different shapes for better fitting capability.

CoolSmooth Pro

CoolSmooth Pro

Treatment Time: 75 minutesThe CoolSmooth Pro requires the longest cooling time because it rests on the skin rather than using suction.

Suction: No
Cycles: One per application.

CoolSmooth Outer tighs

This is the only applicator that can treat dense, un-pinchable areas of fat on the body. It is designed for the outer thighs but can also be used on the abdomen. Another nice feature of the CoolSmooth Pro applicator is that it bends to hug the areas being treated.

CoolMini Applicator

CoolMini

Treatment Time: 45 minutes

Suction: Yes
Cycles: One per application.

We saved our most popular for last. This miniature applicator is a real game-changer because it allows us to treat small areas of fat we couldn’t access with the larger CoolMini Areasapplicators. It was designed to treat the submental area (double chin), but we are also using it on the armpit puffs and knees.

Although CoolSculpting and liposuction are equally effective in the neck, we are certainly doing more CoolSculpting here than liposuction in the year since the CoolMini applicator arrived. The other day Natasha made her rounds through the office sharing her latest before and after photo saying, “I love treating chins!”

5 Areas CoolSculpting Works Better Than Liposuction

When I began my training in plastic surgery, liposuction was just being introduced. Since that time, almost 35 years ago, we have seen significant improvements in how liposuction is performed. Recently we have seen the emergence of non-surgical fat reduction. Of all the different technologies that have been developed for this, CoolSculpting is clearly the … Read more »

Introducing Natasha Self, Certified CoolSculpting Technician

Natasha CoolSculpting
Quietly effective and totally charming, Natasha has been performing the CoolSculpting treatments at our office since we brought in the technology over five years ago.

Experience and training matter in this arena. Even though it is a non-surgical procedure, CoolSculpting is very technique-driven. There is a real learning curve before a provider really understands how to get the best results when treating patients, and Natasha is among the best.

Not only has she performed the most CoolSculpting treatments in Knoxville, but Dr. Reath flew her to Dallas and Montreal to train for days with the top CoolSculpting practices in the US and Canada. Natasha is the only CoolSculpting provider in Knoxville to attend the advanced CoolSculpting University in San Francisco…twice! You will benefit from her added experience and all the best practices she learned from the experts.

“I’ve always been such a people person, and helping both patients and Dr. Reath has been very fulfilling. Our patients’ excitement after they see the amazing results from their CoolSculpting treatments makes me excited too. It’s definitely one of the best parts of my job!”
