Injectable Treatments

It’s a great time to be over 30.

Injectable wrinkle treatments Knoxville
Never before have there been so many nonsurgical solutions for facial aging.

For those of you who have never had an injectable treatment before, you probably have heard about products like Botox and Juvederm, but are not exactly sure what they do. Dysport is a competitor to Botox which you may have heard of as well. Until you’ve experienced them, it’s pretty normal to be a bit confused about what exactly these products are and how they can help you look younger. Sure, both Botox and fillers are injectable wrinkle treatments, but they work in very different ways.

Botox. Once you get it, you really get it.

With an ultra-fine needle Botox is injected into certain muscles responsible for making facial expressions. By relaxing these specific muscles, the wrinkle and lines they cause disappear. You’ll still be able to smile, laugh and be expressive but your skin will be smoother and your wrinkles drastically reduced. So when you think of Botox, think crow’s feet, forehead lines and angry looking creases between your eyebrows. Honestly, we love it.

Fillers fill in lines and add volume to the face.

Juvederm, Restylane, Volbella, Vollure and Voluma are dermal fillers made of hyaluronic acid, a natural complex sugar that retains water and adds volume to the skin. Overwhelmingly, our favorite fillers are in the Juvederm family. They last longer, look the most natural and come in five different formulations designed for the area you want to fill in. When you think of fillers, think nasolabial folds, cheeks, under the eyes, marionette lines, depressed corners of the mouth, augmenting cheek bones and contouring jaw lines. Fillers are also used to plump and define the lip area.

Combined, Botox and fillers are even better.

New scientific studies confirm that the combination of injectable Hyaluronic Acid Fillers (like Juvederm) with Botox produces a result that is far superior and longer lasting than either one alone. The latest research confirms the long-lasting results we are experiencing here at our Knoxville office. This union of products allows us to treat wrinkles and folds over the entire face as well as adding shape and volume where needed.

For the 7th edition of Your Beauty Magazine, we sat down with our incomparable Nurse Injector Jill Maze, who is a brilliant artist with a needle. So that’s a lot of information to get you oriented to Botox and fillers. The pages on our website are chocked full of information that will be helpful to you as you do your research. You’ll find procedure prices, rebate information and scores of before and after photos.

Here’s where to start:

(All the before and after pictures below are Jill’s patients.)

Crow’s Feet

No expensive eye cream works nearly as well as a tiny bit of Botox to the Crow’s feet area.

Cheeks

Juvederm has a dermal filler which is a much thicker formula designed to lift the cheek area. Juvederm Voluma is the first and only HA filler cleared by the FDA to restore volume loss in the cheeks, a major factor in the aging equation. Think about it like this: Juvederm Voluma XC lifts, as opposed to the other Juvederm products which fill in lines.

Brow Area

The frown line in the area between the eyes (glabellar region) is treated with Botox to stop the muscle motion. If you have more pronounced wrinkles here, Juvederm or other wrinkle fillers can be used to fill them in. It can also be used to correct brow asymmetry.

Forehead

Botox is used to prevent the muscle activity, which causes wrinkles on the forehead. Like in the brow area, if you have deeper wrinkles in the forehead the don’t go away when you muscles are relaxed, a bit of Juvederm can work magic to fill them in.

Nose

Although “bunny-nose” wrinkles are cute for kids, they are not at all attractive once we get older. A bit of Botox makes them disappear. Wrinkle fillers are often used to contour the bridge of the nose, if that’s a concern.

Mouth

Botox can bring a real smile to your face. As you age the corners of your mouth can turn down. When you add a tiny bit of Botox to the DAO muscles that cause this, the effect is striking. The corners come up to a normal level, and lose that scowling downward turn. You just look happier. The artful use of fillers can even lift the corners of the mouth to create an even more cheerful expression. Want even better news? Since it doesn’t take very much Botox, treating the DAO area costs much less than treating any other area. (Now you’re really smiling!)

Juvederm works beautifully to fill in the fold that runs between your nose and the side of your mouth (the nasolabial fold). A tiny dose of Botox with the addition of Juvederm corrects pursed lip wrinkles above the mouth.

Vertical Lip Lines

New Volbella XC is the perfect filler to use in those lines above your lip that come from smoking and drinking through a straw.

Lips

Injectable fillers are the best way to restore full youthful lips. You can choose to create greater definition of the lip line and add as much or as little volume as you like.

Chin

Just a little bit of Botox works miracles to treat “orange peel” aging around the mouth and chin. Relaxing the mentalis muscle in the right patient can take years off.

Jaw Line

Juvederm is used to contour the jaw line and is very effective when the laxity of the skin is minimal.

Other Options

Because hyaluronic acid fillers mold so beautifully, they can be used to fill in depressed areas, contour irregularities, skin defects and acne scars all over the face.

Meet Jill Maze, RN, BSN

Jill is an extraordinarily gifted Nurse Injector. Working under the direct supervision of Dr. Reath since 2008, her extensive training and gentle touch is a winning combination.

Her patients attest to her caring bedside manner, her skilled professionalism and her aesthetic expertise. Many drive all the way from Nashville and Atlanta because she is that good. They even nominated her for Real Self’s Most Loved Injector.

Every year Jill travels across the country to train with the most renowned experts in cosmetic injectables to refine her skills and bring back new techniques to our patients. This area requires a unique blend of artistry and science as well as the need to stay current, so Jill will continue her travels in the U.S. and Canada to observe the leaders in her field.

This advanced training is why she has been using flexible cannulas for the past four years to inject fillers. Flexible cannulas are not only safer than needles, they cause far less bruising and discomfort for her patients. She is the only injector in Knoxville to use them.

She is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgical Nurses. She was in the first class in the country to attend the Advanced Injector Competence Training Course designed by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons in Las Vegas. In addition, she received specialized instruction on techniques for using Botox® for areas other than the upper face. She is also trained and experienced with the recently FDA-approved filler Juvederm Voluma.

Besides she is so accomplished, many patients are surprised that Jill is completely down to earth and has a wicked sense of humor. It’s pretty common for us to hear them giggling down the hall into their ice packs as they leave her room.
