The Personal Approach to Skin Care

Our Skin Care Clinic offers the latest skin care products and services that are medically approved to consistently deliver impressive results, making a dramatic difference in the look and feel of your skin. Because most of our products and services are available only through physicians, results like these cannot be duplicated in a spa or salon.

Yet your skin care experience will not be clinical. Soft lighting, relaxing music and luxurious bedding combine to pamper as never before. Your skin care service will be “a treat” as well as a treatment.

Medical-Grade vs. Store-Bought

The Million Dollar Question: What makes products in our medical practice better than what you buy in a drug or department store?

This is something we get asked a lot — particularly when there is so much money spent on advertising confusing the issue. The fact is that there are two standards of ingredients and two measures of regulation between what you find in our skin care clinic and what you buy over the beauty counter. Whether a skin care product works and is safe depends largely on what grade of ingredients it contains — cosmetic or pharmaceutical.

What’s the difference between cosmetic and pharmaceutical ingredients?

The products and peels we carry in our office are all pharmaceutical grade skin care and, as such, are subject to FDA regulation (even our vitamins). The FDA requires that pharmaceutical grade products be 99.9% pure ingredients. Products must contain 0.1%, or less, of bacteria. Only 5% of the skin care industry is under the regulation established by the FDA and considered pharmaceutical grade skin care products.

The other 95% of skin care products marketed are “cosmetic grade,” two grades down in quality from pharmaceutical grade. The FDA does not perform or review product safety testing on cosmetics so the big beauty companies are trusted to do this on their own. The FDA doesn’t test how well a cosmetic product works. Because of this, claims made by cosmetics companies regarding how safe or effective a product may be are often unsubstantiated and untrue.

This explains the vast difference between what a cosmetic product “says” it will do and what it does. No-one is validating these advertising claims. It’s easy to confuse a brand name with a result. Because someone is familiar with an “Oil of Olay” or a “L’Oreal,” they often assume it will work as promised. If you are like us, you have thrown away hundreds of dollars worth of products in disappointment. That gets very expensive. If you are on a budget, it is even more important to buy what works the first time.

Ingredients Are Active. Marketing Budgets Are Not.

Before you come into our skin care store, you may not have heard of Alastin or Société Clinical or AnteAge MD Skincare. That’s because these companies spend their money on what’s in the bottle rather than on advertising to the public. Their goal is to treat the skin like the organ it is, as opposed to providing ubiquitous skin care for the masses.

Because they are distributed under the care of physicians, the ingredients can be a lot more active, and you see results much quicker. Since they don’t sit on grocery store shelves for months, they don’t contain preservatives, stabilizers and fillers. They don’t have fragrances or dyes or sodium lauryl sulfate or parabens to reduce the cost of production.

Expertise to Guide You

The best results are achieved with the combination of great products and a Licensed professional who can steer you in the right direction. Our Reveal Camera Documents Your Results

Our new Reveal camera lets you see sun damage and brown spots deep in the dermal layers of your skin before they are visible to the naked eye (and while you still have time to correct it.)

In addition to documenting brown spots, the Reveal camera shows areas of redness and vascular features to help develop highly targeted treatment recommendations just for you. You will be able to accurately measure the results of your skin care regimen like never before. Best of all, the Reveal photographs are included at no charge in your free skin care consultation.

Before and After Skin Care for Sun Damage:
These two photographs are taken with our Reveal Camera showing the underlying sun damage in her skin. The first (taken on August 10) shows high degrees of damage from sun and tanning beds, which weren’t visible by looking at her skin with the naked eye. In the second shot (November 30), you can see significant improvement in the damage to the surface, which was achieved by skin care, a chemical peel, and sun protection. Click on the images to see the larger detailed photos.

Before and After Reveal Camera Photos of Laser Genesis for Redness: This is a 39-year-old woman who was concerned about a constant redness she was noticing in her skin tone. She was even having trouble covering it with makeup. Our Licensed Aesthetician performed a series of six Laser Genesis along with a spot treatment of Limelight IPL. Her complexion is much improved as you can see in the regular Reveal photos. The dramatic changes in her skin are evident when looking at the Reveal photos that show redness underneath. What an improvement!
