We’d like to introduce you to Glowbiotics, our new advanced probiotic skincare line. This is the line we fell in love with at the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons meeting in Montreal.
Rather than exfoliating the surface of the skin, Glowbiotics MD helps you achieve your skincare goals through the use of topical probiotics and next-generation science that rebuild and volumize the skin from within.
The Million Dollar Question: What makes products in our medical practice (and new online store) better than what you buy in a drug or department store?
This is something we get asked a lot. Particularly when there is so much money being spent on advertising confusing the issue. The fact is that there are two standards of ingredients and two standards of regulation between what you find in our skin care clinic and what you buy over the beauty counter. Whether a skin care product works and is safe depends largely on what grade of ingredients it contains- cosmetic or pharmaceutical.
The products and peels we carry in our office are all pharmaceutical grade skin care and as such are subject to FDA regulation (even our vitamins). The FDA requires that pharmaceutical grade products be 99.9% pure ingredients. Products must contain 0.1%, or less, of bacteria. Only 5% of the skin care industry is under the regulation established by the FDA and considered pharmaceutical grade skin care products.
The other 95% of skin care products marketed are “cosmetic grade”, two grades down in quality from pharmaceutical grade. The FDA does not perform or review product safety testing on cosmetics so the big beauty companies are trusted to do this on their own. The FDA doesn’t test how well a cosmetic product works. Because of this, it’s possible that claims made by cosmetics companies regarding how safe or effective a product is are often unsubstantiated and/or untrue.
This explains the vast difference between what a cosmetic product “says” it will do and what it really does. No-one is validating these advertising claims. It’s easy to confuse a brand name with a result. Because someone is familiar with an “Oil of Olay” or a “L’Oreal”, they often assume it will work as promised. If you are like us, you have thrown away hundreds of dollars worth of products in disappointment. That gets very expensive. If you are on a budget, it is even more important to buy what works the first time.
Before you come into our skin care store, you may not have heard of Real Medical or Société Clinical or Glowbiotics MD Skincare. That’s because these companies spend their money on what’s in the bottle rather than on advertising to the public. Their goal is to treat the skin like the organ it is, as opposed to providing ubiquitous skin care for the masses.
Because they are distributed under the care of physicians, the ingredients are able to be a lot more active and you see results much quicker. Since they don’t sit on grocery store shelves for months, they don’t contain preservatives, stabilizers and fillers. They don’t have fragrances or dyes or sodium lauryl sulfate or parabens or any of the other fillers that reduce the cost of production.
The best results are achieved with the combination of great products and a Licensed professional who can steer you in the right direction. Some of our products are really, really active and are not appropriate for someone new to skin care or someone with sensitive skin. For skin care veterans, our Licensed Aesthetician Christy Ledford, can steer you towards some of our favorite products just for you.
Our new Reveal camera lets you see sun damage and brown spots deep in the dermal layers of your skin before they are visible to the naked eye (and while you still have time to correct it.)
In addition to documenting brown spots, the Reveal camera shows areas of redness and vascular features to help develop highly targeted treatment recommendations just for you. You will be able to accurately measure the results of your skin care regimen like never before. Best of all, the Reveal photographs are included at no charge in your free skin care consultation.
Before and After Skin Care for Sun Damage:
These two photographs are taken with our Reveal Camera showing the underlying sun damage in her skin. The first (taken on August 10) shows high degrees of damage from sun and tanning beds which weren’t visible by looking at her skin with the naked eye. In the second shot, (November 30) you can see significant improvement in the damage to the skin which was achieved by skin care, a chemical peel and sun protection. Click on the images to see the larger detailed photos.
Before and After Reveal Camera Photos of Skin Brightening Real Peel: Here is a 59 year old mother of three who loves to garden and spend time outdoors. Licensed Aesthetician did a Skin Brightening Real Peel with the at-home skin care regimen. Here she is with pictures taken on the Reveal Camera before and exactly two months after her procedure.
Before and After Reveal Camera Photos of Laser Genesis for Redness: This is a 39-year-old woman who was concerned about a constant redness she was noticing in her skin tone. She was even having trouble covering it with makeup. Our Licensed Aesthetician performed a series of six Laser Genesis along with a spot treatment of Limelight IPL. Her complexion is much improved as you can see in the regular Reveal photos. The dramatic changes in her skin are evident when looking at the Reveal photos that show redness underneath. What an improvement!

The newest skin care treatment in our office is the HydraFacial MD, which can be customized to treat a variety of skin care conditions. The HydraFacial MD combines both physical and chemical exfoliation, along with a powerful infusion of antioxidants and topical medical-strength active ingredients. It’s becoming our “go-to” skin care treatment for a reason!
Chemical peels are definitely experiencing a newfound popularity and with these new peels, it’s easy to see why. Chemical peels are now the fourth most popular nonsurgical procedures in the country (after Botox, Fillers and Laser Hair Removal). We think it is because of the marked improvement in their formulations.
Our new generation of chemical peels from Real Medical and Societe Clinical Skincare is a far cry from old-fashioned glycolic acid peels which could be harsh and irritating to the skin without very exciting results. In fact, most of the new peels contain no glycolic acid at all.
Rather than just treating the superficial layers of the skin like peels of the past, these new chemical peels penetrate to the dermis, rejuvenating the skin from the inside out. Chirally-corrected active ingredients actually help to remodel the skin for less down time and more visible results.
If you are needing a jump-start, chemical peels can be boosted and layered for powerful results never before possible. They can be blended and customized for every skin type, including Rosacea and Melasma. Some peels are best in a series and others are designed to stand alone.
Rather than exfoliating the top layers of the skin, the Youthboost Treatment works from the inside out with no excessive peeling, redness or downtime. Yet, you see instant results right after your treatment and long term benefits going forward. The secret is using probiotics topically on the skin. It becomes smoother and tighter with a more even tone and blemishes start to fade. Over time, your skin becomes stronger, has more volume, a more even texture and a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.
Licensed Aesthetician Christy Ledford has developed quite a following for her artistic brow design and shaping. Really! We have patients who come into Knoxville from hours away just to get Heather to do their waxing. So if you are here for other skin care procedures, you’ll definitely want to check out our waxing.
These treatments focus on regenerating the skin and improving texture, fine lines and wrinkles, but the way each works is different. Laser procedures have a fixed and targeted area of penetration. It is enhanced by the number of passes performed. The penetration and results from a chemical peel is dependent both on the concentration of active ingredients and the amount of time they are in contact with the skin. HydraFacial MD is a physical exfoliation of the top layers of the skin, followed by a deep infusion of prescription-strength topicals.
Which is best for you depends on your skin care goals and your budget. We’ll be happy to walk you through all of your choices during your free skin care consultation.
